Scripture: Thus says the Lord, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord (Jeremiah 9:23-24, MSG).
God’s Message: “Don’t let the wise brag of their wisdom. Don’t let heroes brag of their exploits. Don’t let the rich brag of their riches. If you brag, brag of this and this only: That you understand and know me. I’m God, and I act in loyal love. I do what’s right and set things right and fair, and delight in those who do the same things. These are my trademarks.” God’s Decree (Jeremiah 9:23-24, MSG).
Observation: God values and desires a personal intimate relationship with Him far above everything else. He delights in loving and holy character traits in His people. Wisdom, power and riches, though not necessarily bad things, they are of far less value to God than the value mankind would normally place on them.
Application: Relationships require communication, in this case prayer, and a good portion of communication should be listening. Relationships involve love and trust.
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus I help me to know and understand you better. I choose to spend time with You in prayer. Help me to take the time to listen to You, and not to run off to the next thing that is demanding my attention. Help me to walk in a manner that is worthy of the relationship that You have chosen to have with me. I confess, that there are times, when that I have trouble loving and trusting You, please help and encourage me in these times. Thank You.
